The Role of Philosophy in Religion

Philosophy has a vital, dynamic role in religion. This is because without philosophy, religion does not have any means of clarifying itself and proving the existence of God.
But what is philosophy? Philosophy is defined by Webster as: "The pursuit of wisdom". In short Philosophy is the study of life itself; the intricacies, problems and challenges that one encounters in life.

December, But Still Sweltering

The cold month of December is fast approaching but it is still hot and humid in the locality where I live.

This is probably because of global warming and the green house effect which we humans have created inadvertently; and of course I live in a tropical country.

In these humid atmosphere, a good and tried electric fan, ceiling fan or airdcondtioner is in order. One of these tried and tested ceiling fans are the "casablanca ceiling fans".
and "Ellington celing fans"

They are durable with all accesories and spare parts available. Various ceiling and electric fans are also available and they could be adjusted depending on your specifications.

An airconditioner could burn a hole in one's pocket and will greatly affect the household budget for the whole month;  so why don't you shift to these less expensive but equally effective fans?

Fans are cheaper and are more affordable for middle income families.

Buying good ceiling fans and elecric fans however, should be done with care and caution. Be sure that you get your hard earned - money's worth.

My Favorite Footwear

When I was a kid, I sometimes go without shoes or slippers. It was good to feel the cold damp earth tickling my soles and "refreshing" my feet. But time moves on and so does technology.

Now, I have to wear shoes - whether I like it or not- because going without it, would be like going naked in a public place.

I have trouble however in selecting my shoes as I am flat footed and almost all shoes hurt my feet. I have to let my feet be measured specifically (wide- toed shoes) because of this, and had them made to order.

The ready made shoes usually lasts only for a few weeks. And sometimes, when the new shoes hurt so much, I go back to wearing the tattered, old ones.
I have large bunions right now and I have a friend who was operated on because of bunions. This makes me doubly nervous of choosing the right shoes.

Then, my daughter who is abroad, gifted me with an Adidas. At first I ignored it, but when they have required us at work to undergo compulsory physical fitness program, I have to use it. It was the only rubber shoes I had in my possession.

Miracles of miracles, I felt so comfortable with it that I used it all day and the days after.

I also found luck with this wonderful online shop, with everything and anything available on the click of a keypad. I can now buy all the same, comfortable footwear that I now love using.

Now I don’t go without my favorite footwear, and I enjoy jogging because of it.

It’s Never Too Late

By: JEAN KNILL

“I’d love to go and see my newest great-grandson,” my mother was saying. It was Christmas morning in 1998, and we had been invited to join a friend’s family for drinks at their pub near my home.

This was our first Christmas without my dad who had passed away around Easter time. None of us could face one of our traditional Christmases, gathered around my sister’s table. She lived near our parents and always invited us to join them. But that year, she and her husband had gone to a hotel, and I had collected Mum to come and stay with us about 100 miles away.

We were pleased to be able to start the day away from home with friends, and not have the time to reminisce and grow even more sad. Everyone made a fuss of Mum. She had made a real effort, dressing herself in a pleated black skirt and lacy top, and putting on a little make-up. She didn’t really look her 81 years.

“So why can’t you go and see the new baby?” someone said.

“Well, they live in Germany, you see. I’d have to go on a plane,” was Mum’s reply.

“But you could do that. It’s not far and wouldn’t take long, really.”
“But I’ve never been on a plane before.”

My parents were essentially home birds and Mum had never been out of Britain. Dad especially had never wanted to go far. I’d been still a baby and my sister hadn’t been born when he’d been spared the horrors of overseas in the war, because of a serious medical condition that nearly carried him off anyway. Once he recovered he spent the war years in Northern Ireland, the Scillies and Plymouth, which was horrific enough in the blitz. Many of the lads in his regiment never came home from the front. He lived until his 88th year and we were lucky to have him with us as long as we did.

The conversation I was eavesdropping on was continuing.

“Well, you shouldn’t let that stop you.”

“But I’m over 80 you know. I couldn’t go on my own.”

At this point, I stepped in.

“I’ll take you, Mum.” And I did.

My nephew, Brian, and his German wife, Heike, were more than happy for us to visit them, but advised us to wait till later in the year. I set about organising everything. First there was a passport needed and for that we had to have Mum’s birth certificate, which was nowhere to be found. Getting a copy entailed a 200 mile round trip to Newton Abbot register office. Mum’s doctor signed a photo and acquiring the passport was quite simple after that. Insurance wasn’t quite so easy and doctors’ letters were required before that was finally agreed.

The airline was happy to provide wheelchair access to the flight to Basle where we were to be met by the family. When we presented ourselves at Heathrow on a breezy Saturday in May, we were treated like VIPs. The facilities for wheelchair passengers and their companions far exceeded my expectations. No waiting in line to check in. We had comfortable seats and the staff came to us. When the time came to board, a bright young man with a reassuring smile brought the wheelchair and whisked us through all the formalities in no time. We reached our seats ahead of everyone else.

Mum was nervous. I had to hold her hand. But she was excited as well and giggled like a teenager, until the safety procedure demo had her worrying that she wouldn’t be able to remember it all. She held on tightly to my hand at take-off, then gazed through the little window at the receding earth, pointing out things she recognised. I was a pretty seasoned traveller, but I found I was seeing everything differently and felt as excited as she seemed to be.

When the clouds obscured the view below, she wondered how the pilot could find the way, and she marvelled indeed when we broke through to the brilliant sunshine above. Before long, the pilot was telling us that we should be able to glimpse Paris down to our left, and she bemoaned the fact that we were sitting on the wrong side of the aircraft.

She was even thrilled when I reminded her that we were flying to an airport in Switzerland, and we’d have to drive through a tiny part of France to reach Weil am Rein in Germany, where our family lived. Her first overseas trip and she’d experience three different countries.

A couple of hours later we landed at Basle. A stewardess asked us to wait in our seats while the other passengers disembarked. When she came back, Mum thanked her shyly and told her that she’d just had her 82nd birthday and she had never flown before.

“Well, fancy that! This should be a double celebration. I won’t be a minute.” The stewardess rushed off and came back with four small bottles of champagne in a bag for me to carry away.

We hadn’t told her about the other reason to celebrate. But I’ll never forget the joy on my mother’s face as Brian stepped back from her embrace and lifted his six month old second son, Freddie, out of the car seat, holding him up for her to see. Her brilliant smile shone through tears as she spoke to him.

“Hello darling. Isn’t this wonderful. I thought I might never get to meet you at all.”

That evening, when Freddie and four year old Rudi were asleep, Brian, Heike, Mum and I sat in comfy chairs on the balcony of their first floor living room. We lifted our champagne glasses to Dad, who would have loved to witness this get-together with a new member of the family. Perhaps he was aware of it; we hoped so.

Mum lived another six years, and she did get to see Freddie again, and all of them, when they visited England a couple of times in the intervening years. But there had been no guarantees of that. She was frail after she lost Dad. And now that she’s gone, I have lovely memories of our trip together to the Rhine Country

There is, of course, a moral to this story. We should never give up on our dreams, no matter how old or frail we get. It’s never too late for opportunity to knock.

Increase Traffic To Your Blog: How To Make The Most of Your Entrecard

Photo:Courtesy of Entrecard

I have discovered this through trial and error, and I want to share this short pointers with whoever is interested:

1. Make your “Drop In Box” the basis of what blogs to drop on. Start backwards from the last going to the first dropper.

I usually start with page no.5. Then click on the “cards you haven’t dropped on”, when I proceed to pages 4,3,2, and then 1.

I find this very effective because I receive more drops, than when I started with page 1. ( of course, using the Entrebar will facilitate dropping.)

2. If you have several blogs. Don’t drop all the 300 cards on one blog and forgo dropping cards for the rest of your blogs.
Instead, drop at least 50 -100 cards per blog , making sure that all of your blogs have at least 50-100 drops/day.

3. Invite guest bloggers and watch your links increase. It is also one way of strengthening friendships .

4. Be generous in helping other people. It wouldn’t hurt you if you extend a helping hand.
In helping others, in the long run, this will come back to you too.
GIGO- "Garbage In –Garbage Out".
I started with 4 readers in my Gewgaw Writings and now it is a lot more.

5. Stop and comment on posts you find interesting . You could not contribute anything worthwhile if you just comment for the sake of it. Sincerely commenting on other blogs will surely gain you some good friends and - of course - readers too.

6. Always reply to your readers ( I know this have been emphasized by no less than Graham himself). It’s like acknowledging them and showing them some respect.

7. If you have more time , then you can venture on the “Campaign Bar” and visit new blogs to add more to your favorites.

8. Buy advertisement spaces from other entrecarders. This will increase the visits and of course readership of your posts.

I'm still learning and experimenting on the various activities.
I'll let you know if I discover something again.
Happy blogging!

The Tempting Arm of Morpheus - Should you be seduced?

Sleep is defined by Webster as "the natural periodic suspension of consciousness during which the powers of the body are restored."
Sleep is defined by philosophers as being in the Arms of Morpheus (The Greek God of Dreams) and therefore being temporarily dead. We are rendered "unconscious." It is in this state that we recoup whatever energy that we have lost during the busy hours of the day.
When we sleep, our body cells are energized and rejuvenated. This is done when certain cells in the brain and in the central nervous system are allowed to rest and are repaired by specific agents inside our body, like enzymes.

A person who is deprived of long hours of sleep will be lethargic, will lack muscle coordination, will have poor memory and concentration and will be irritable.

The longer a person is deprived of sleep the more his brain cells are stressed out. This will cause them to secrete substances which are harmful to the body.
In extreme cases where there is longer deprivation of sleep, a person becomes incoherent and could be driven "insane."

For young persons, at least 10 hours of sleep is needed to enhance secretion of the growth hormone , a hormone responsible for growth of all cells in the body.

So don't be afraid to be seduced by the Arms of Morpheus. Give in graciously and get your much needed sleep to rejuvenate your body cells.

MyLot Site - A Good Forum Site Where You Can Earn Too.

I was surfing earlier when I came upon the MyLot site. I was pleasantly surprised to notice that it was a forum where they pay you to interact with other users/readers all over the globe. You are allowed to express your opinions ask questions you want the answers to - AND THEY PAY YOU!

I had once participated in a similar question and answer forum and I did so with fervor and dedication, but got no monetary reward from it.

I know money is not everything but, who does not need extra cash in these hard times?

So I registered FOR FREE and the topics were interesting ranging from money, to blogging, to health, etc.

You could also add your blog there and that would be additional exposure for you.

What more you'll receive 25 % of the earnings of all persons you refer to the site.

I just started one day ago, so I still did not yet receive any pay outs.

Well, I hope when I do, it would be something substantial as I wanted to be an active member.

I am glad to present the initial article for the soon to be published book - "Inspirational Thoughts and Stories of Bloggers All Over The World"

Inspiration
By Nicholas Chase

Inspiration is defined by Merriam-Websters On-line as:
1 a: a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation b: the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions c: the act of influencing or suggesting opinions2: the act of drawing in; specifically : the drawing of air into the lungs3 a: the quality or state of being inspired b: something that is inspired 4: an inspiring agent or influence
— in·spi·ra·tion·al \-shnəl, -shə-nəl\ adjective
— in·spi·ra·tion·al·ly adverb
Pronunciation:
\ˌin(t)-spə-ˈrā-shən, -(ˌ)spi-\
Date:
14th century

For the purpose of this article, I gave some thought to what has inspired me in my life.

I am inspired by God, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, three-in-one. I was inspired by my father’s life and his father’s and so on. I was inspired by my brother-in-law, and his life challenges that eventually ended his life prematurely at the age of fifty-four.
I live on a planet that has everything I need, and you need, to sustain our lives. Water, air, sunlight, food, clothing, minerals, loving grandmothers and grandfathers, dedicated scientists and doctors, passionate nurses and lab technicians, sacrificing teachers and coaches, awe-inspiringly patient and kind mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends, great thinkers, gifted artists and craftspeople.
The only contribution I have made to occupy this miracle earth I live upon is to be born into it. The ’everything’s I need’, listed above have been placed here for my use, long before my birth, and I believe they will sustain after I have passed on.
When you actually stop and think for a moment, about all of the things that were provided here before you arrived, it is inconceivable to think anything else but, that this planet had a Creator and a Designer.

Here is something to think about. "This planet earth weighs approximately seven-trillion tons, or ten septillion pounds. Septillion is a number with twenty-four zero’s!"
Source: Users.hubwest.com
So, if mankind could even figure out how to suspend a planet that weighs this much in space, powered by some kind of engine designed by you and me, how much fuel would this engine consume per minute, and where would we obtain the fuel to keep the tank full? Obviously I am describing a force much greater than any engine could provide, and gravity is immensely more powerful than any creation of man.
Then there is the sun. Positioning this is critical to insure planet earth is not burned to a crisp, or too far away so that the cold of space freezes everything. I have not been able to locate any kind of crane constructed with such a material that could perform this critical positioning, without melting long before it could get close enough to lift a burning sun.

Oh, and all of the stars and planets placed in such perfect designs, and groups to inspire study by generations of artists, scientists and scholars for an eternity?
Therefore, I have concluded that this planet did not just ‘happen’ into existence. This is truly inspirational, because it means that someone much greater than myself, loved me enough to go through unimaginable planning for my needs. The mind that conceived of all of this can only be attributed to a loving God.

Consider this, all of the wonderful computers we use to write our blogs, books, newspapers and articles, were designed upon the materials found on a beach, basic grains of sand! Converted to silicon through fire and manufacturing processes so complex, most of us give up trying to understand how this is possible. Did man provide the sand on the beach, certainly not!

Did a Creator provide man and woman with sufficient brain function to have an insatiable curiosity in discovering that sand could be converted into a device so powerful and useful that computers exist today in virtually everything we buy that has a power source? Absolutely!

Did a creator provide an architect and an engineer with a mind that could conceive to design and build buildings that reach ever closer to the lower atmosphere? Absolutely!

I think of the accomplishments of the last 100 years that my grandfather witnessed in his 92 year-long life. The invention of radio, television, polio vaccines, medicines that cure disease, man landing on the moon, lasers, Ferrari’s, medical procedures and surgeries that people can now survive. None of this is by chance, but reveals a superior mind so complex in its creative processes, that there are unlimited endeavors available to all of the inhabitants of this world.
We only need to pick things up from our planet, or drill and mine them from below the surface, and decide what we want to do with them next! Who could fathom all of the inventions we take for granted, without realizing that the basic building blocks of everything we touch, see, feel and do were given to us for free, here in this world. The chemicals and tissues that are inside of our bodies have found out where they need to be in order to function, not through anything we have done to create or guide them. This is truly inspiring!

The genetic program, our human DNA, that has slowly been revealed using a creative, scientific approach, indicates that this is not mere chance. How does the heart find its way into the chest, and connect itself to the aorta and blood supply in a growing fetus, in order to begin to beat at the precise time when the other contributing organs and bone marrow, supply the blood that it is designed to pump throughout the body? Inspiring? ..Yes!
I have yet to meet anyone here who has the fortitude to sit at a lab bench and assemble this incredibly complex helix of data, into a functioning human being without some kind of biological glitch causing complete failure of the data to assemble a person resembling you or me!
Inspirational? Without question.

How do the animals of the earth find food, water, each other, and everything they need to survive and thrive? From their Creator of course and the tools He provided for them to live. The complex design of the earth’s food chain is way too intertwined to have just happened. The co-dependent systems of our home planet, such as gravity, sunlight, water, soil, insect pollination of crops, and the cyclic repeating of all of these processes year after year, without any of man’s interventions required, is simply astounding and completely inspired in its design and operation.
For us to believe that any of this was of our doing, is to ignore the tremendous, energy, skill, intellect and sustainability of it all to be anything but the work of a loving, caring, nurturing and philanthropic God. Asking for nothing in return, but to return his love, we are sustained here on this planet with every conceivable provision required.

I welcome your thoughts about this article. I have certainly exposed some controversial points of science and spirituality. It has taken me 56 years of living in this incredibly complex, wonderful world to be sufficiently prepared to write it and share it with an audience.

It is freely offered to you in the hope that you will come away from the reading of it, with some well formed questions to ask about what inspires you?

What True Friendship Is All About

Jhayson and Timothy -" The Best of Friends "

Webster defines the word "friend" as "one attached to another by affection or esteem."

For centuries, people gave their own definition of the word in several, unique ways.

Here are some noteworthy quotations related to friendship.

"The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand,
nor the kindly smile nor the joy of companionship;
it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when
he discovers that someone else believes in him
and is willing to trust him."

By: Ralph Waldo Emerson

Your friend is the man who knows all about you, and still likes you.

By: Elbert Hubbard

Indeed true friends are like precious jewels who lighten up your load and brighten up your days. Friends are not judgemental they understand your limitations and make room for them. They always believe the BEST in you even when the whole world shuns you.

They find time to listen to your woes. They tell you the ugly truth in gentle ways that makes you aspire to be a better person.

They don't gossip behind your back but defend you instead against wagging tongues and malicious persons.

They cry, laugh and walk with you along life's road.

Before you can find a true friend; however, be a true friend first!

When you find one, treasure him/her for life, for true friends are rare to find.

Jhay says, Tim is his true friend because " He listens," And when Tim is asked the same question, he answers: " Because he understands."

Simple requirements for being a friend.

Do you have someone you consider or have considered a true friend? What makes him/her different from the rest?

"Entrecard powers up. Partners with SezWho to add about 20 quality comments to your posts"

As bloggers, one of the things that we look forward to, are the comments we receive for each article we post. Comments visibly demonstrate that a blog is alive; that people are reading our posts and that they find them interesting and worth to comment on.

Graham, the ever active administrator of Entrecard, had proven for himself that comments play a major role in succesful blogging - that indeed comments are a significant part of blogging - in fact - the most important aspect of blogging.

This prompted him to seek ways in which entrecarders can utilize this blog's feature to ensure a blog's success. That was how the partnership with SezWho materialized.

According to Graham and I quote: " The SezWho system is so robust, so powerful, that your comments are leveraged tremendously via their suite of features, to deliver an incredible amount of exposure and traffic..."

That was enough reason for me to register! and you can too. In three simple steps.

All an entrecarder has to do is to:
1. Register
2. Install the script in his blog.
3. Comment and rate comments (and in the process, earn extra credits)

Make sure your comments are well thought of and truly contribute to the post written.
Don't spam. Spamming has bad repurcussions.

All Photos from Entrecard

This enterprising move by Graham will hopefully set a beautiful trend of successful blogging by participants ensuring maximal exposure and a tremendous increase in traffic and readership.

What do you think?

Would Entrecard's latest "power - up" move be successful?
